Birth & Postnatal Doula

However your baby comes into the world, your birth isn't simply about welcoming a new baby; it's about the transformation of the woman or person giving birth, and the beginning of a new chapter for your whole family.

My role is never to tell you what to do. Instead, I walk alongside you, creating a calm, nurturing space where you feel safe, heard and deeply supported. Together, we'll prepare for your birth in a way that reflects your circumstances, your values and your hopes, helping you approach your journey with confidence, trust and a deep connection to yourself.

Throughout history, women have supported one another through pregnancy, birth and the transition into motherhood. They shared wisdom, offered reassurance, held space and remained alongside women as they navigated one of life's greatest transformations.

Whilst maternity care has changed enormously over the years, the need for continuous, compassionate support has not.

As your Birth & Postnatal Doula, I offer both practical and emotional support throughout your journey. My role is to walk alongside you, helping you understand your options, prepare for your birth, protect your birth space and feel supported every step of the way.

Whether you're preparing to welcome your first baby or growing your family, my hope is that you feel informed, nurtured and able to trust your own instincts as you prepare for one of life's greatest transitions.

Some words from a Mum I recently supported:
“Helen has been my doula for the birth of my first child and I am finding it difficult to put into words how brilliant, knowledgeable, supportive and amazing she is!

She was incredible at helping us with our birth plan, for preparing us for all eventualities during our birth, for always being on hand to answer any questions we had and the continued support that we felt during our entire pregnancy, birth and post natal period was just incredible, we couldn’t have asked for a better doula.

I would recommend Helen to anyone who is looking for a doula who not only has multiple years of knowledge of birth but also has the natural ability to hold space for you, your birth partner and your baby, in a holistic, spiritual, and beautiful way.

Your Birth Preparation

Preparing for birth is about so much more than writing a birth plan or learning coping techniques. It's about building trust: trust in yourself, trust in your birth partner and trust in those who will be supporting you.

Together we'll prepare for your birth in a way that reflects your circumstances, your values and your hopes. We'll explore your options, work through any previous experiences or concerns, prepare your birth partner to become your strongest source of support, and help you approach your birth feeling informed rather than overwhelmed.Every family's preparation is unique. Depending on your needs, we may draw on HypnoBirthing, birth physiology, biomechanics, Yoga Nidra, deep rest, mindfulness, practical planning and reflective conversation. These aren't the destination—they're simply some of the ways we build confidence, deepen trust and help you prepare for your baby's birth.

Supporting You During Birth

Birth unfolds most freely when a woman or birthing person feels safe, respected and able to trust those around them. My role is to help create those conditions, protecting your birth space and supporting both you and your birth partner so you can remain connected to yourself and surrender to the unfolding of your birth.

Birth doesn't always unfold as we imagine, but whether your plans remain the same or change along the way, wherever birth happens, my commitment remains unchanged: to honour your choices and help you feel informed, supported and confident throughout your journey.

Alongside emotional reassurance, I offer practical support throughout your labour, including massage, rebozo techniques, positioning, aromatherapy and other comfort measures, always adapting my support to meet your individual needs as your birth unfolds.

Supporting Your Birth Partner

Your birth partner has an irreplaceable role.

One of the greatest gifts I can offer is helping them feel confident, informed and fully involved. My role is never to take their place, but to support both of you, creating the space for your partner to remain present, connected and able to support you in the ways that matter most.

Some words from a Dad I recently worked alongside:
“Helen supported us through the home birth of our son Bodhi and we genuinely could not have asked for a better doula.

As a man, I was deeply committed to supporting my incredible wife as much as I possibly through her pregnancy and birth. Helen respected that completely. She never crowded the space or took over, but instead gave Jess and I exactly the right level of support at exactly the right moments.

She has an incredible intuitive sense of when to step in and when to step back. When support was needed, she was there calmly, confidently, and without fuss. When it was not, she protected our space brilliantly. She was a strong gatekeeper for our birthing environment, holding the energy of the room and allowing the birth to unfold in the most calm and grounded way.

Helen's presence made the entire experience feel safe, empowered, and deeply personal for both of us. We will always be grateful for the role she played in bringing our baby boy into the world exactly as we planned, and we would recommend Helen without hesitation to anyone considering a home birth or wanting a doula who genuinely understands how to support both parents.”

Postnatal Support

Birth doesn't end when your baby is born. The postnatal period is a significant time of physical, emotional and personal change, and I believe the person who has given birth deserves just as much care and attention as their baby.

My postnatal support takes a holistic approach, supporting you as a whole person as you recover from birth, adjust to life with your baby and find your way into this new chapter. Sometimes that means practical help and reassurance; sometimes it means having space to talk, rest and process your experience. It can also mean giving attention to your physical recovery and creating opportunities for you to be nurtured and cared for.

Alongside practical and emotional support, I draw on my experience and training in women's health to offer gentle, traditional and holistic practices that can support postnatal recovery. Depending on your circumstances and what feels appropriate for you, this may include yoni steaming, castor oil packs and other forms of warmth, nourishment and restorative care. These are offered as part of a wider approach to supporting your wellbeing, rather than as a prescribed programme.

I also offer Closing the Bones during our final session together, providing a meaningful opportunity to honour your body and the transition you have been through. This traditional ceremony and ritual can create space to acknowledge the end of pregnancy and birth, and the beginning of a new chapter.

Every postnatal client is offered a debrief, giving you time to reflect on your birth, talk through your experience and acknowledge anything that you may still be carrying. There is no expectation that your birth needs to have been difficult for you to benefit from this space; sometimes simply having someone listen, without judgement or agenda, can be valuable.

My role is to mother the mother – to notice you, not just your baby. To offer nourishment, reassurance, practical help and a safe space to pause and reconnect with yourself at a time when so much of your attention is naturally directed elsewhere.

Postnatal support is not about getting back to who you were before. It is about being supported as you recover, change and discover who you are becoming.

Supporting Families with Diverse Experiences

Every family's story is unique, and every birth journey brings its own hopes, questions and challenges. Having supported women, birthing people and families through pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period for more than 10 years, I've had the privilege of walking alongside families through a wide range of experiences. Whatever your circumstances, my role is always the same: to offer experienced, compassionate support, honour your autonomy, and help you feel safe, heard and well supported throughout your journey.

I have experience supporting families through:

  • Home birth, including families planning birth outside of local guidance.

  • Families whose birth plans change unexpectedly, including those navigating the emotional transition from planning a physiological birth to a planned caesarean birth.

  • Vaginal Birth After Caesarean (VBAC).

  • Physiological breech birth.

  • Pregnancy and birth after previous birth trauma.

  • Pregnancy and birth after loss.

  • Parents and families who are autistic, ADHD, AuDHD or otherwise neurodivergent.

  • Parents experiencing anxiety, depression and other mental health challenges during pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period.

  • Disabled parents.

  • LGBTQIA+ families.

  • Survivors of abuse and sexual trauma.

  • Families wishing to honour cultural, religious or spiritual traditions as part of their birth journey.

If your circumstances aren't listed here, please don't assume I can't support you. Every family is different, and I'd be happy to explore how I may be able to walk alongside you on your own unique journey.

No two journeys are ever the same, and I'd love to explore how I may be able to support you and your family.
